Community and Social Services Day by Bryant

The first Youth Leadership Academy session was a real eye-opener for me.  There were some alarming statistics presented throughout the day.  The most alarming for me was the percentage of students on free and reduced lunch at Fremont Public Schools.   I enjoyed the tour of the Jefferson house as it is gratifying to know that kids have such a nice place to go when they need a little time away for whatever reason. I also enjoyed going through a simulation at the Low Income Ministry.  The simulation gave me a good real life situation many people in our town face. The panel at the end of the day also was a nice part of the session because it is good to know that there are many organizations in Fremont to help our less fortunate citizens.  I'm looking forward to our next day!

Community & Social Services by Brooke

My first day of the YLA was very eye-opening and showed me many things about my town that I didn't know. I really enjoyed going to places like the Jefferson House, Care Corps, and Low Income Ministries and talking with the people about what they do for our town. Also, I liked hearing from the panel of various workers at different organizations around town. Its really nice to know there are organizations out there helping families in poverty. I am excited for our November meeting!
